Since 2007 Dance Parade New York has brought together dancers from all walks of life to celebrate all forms of dance-- everything from African to zydeco, belly to breakdance and salsa to swing. Its increasing success shows that Dance Parade can and should grow to be a positive force and energetic expression of our diverse dance communities. We are now expanding the team that will drive Dance Parade’s tremendous growth into a City institution in our fifth and most fabulous year!
We seek capable staffing and recruitment professionals to build Dance Parade’s team. Successful candidates will

A. Tasks
1. Drives recruitment of qualified staff members, volunteers, and Board members; working with the Executive Director, posts job descriptions of available positions on Dance Parade website and various online and print media
2. Screens and presents to Committee Leaders applicants for open positions
3. Trains new team members on Dance Parade knowledge, materials, systems, and software
4. Develops and maintains Volunteer Handbook including mission & values, Volunteer Business Plan and contact sheet
5. Updates Bios to be used on the website and for grant applications. Resumes for key positions are maintained by this committee and stored on Grouphub.
B. 2010 Goals
1. Recruit and train at least two new Staff and Volunteer Recruitment committee members, one by October 15, 2010 and another by November 15, 2010.
2. Recruit and train at least four new Development committee members: 2 by October 15; 2 by November 25, 2010.
3. Recruit and train at least five new Parade Outreach committee members: 2 by October 15, 2010, 2 by November 25, 2010; 1 by January 5, 2011.
6. Recruit and train at least five Parade Production committee members by January 31, 2011.
7. Recruit and train at least three new Marketing committee members, two by November 15, 2010, and another oine by January 10, 2011.
8. Ensure that recruitment and training for parade day volunteers well planned six weeks in advance of the parade.
9. Get 4 advertising and sales team members (selling ads for event booklet) by December 1st 2010
10. Create Volunteer Handbook based on last year’s including mission & values, Business Plan and contact sheet
11. Recruit and train Day of Parade Volunteers in at least two training sessions to take place in the 10 days preceding the eve of the parade.
12. Recruit 2 database admins (to complete install set-up, to migrate data, and then to maintain) (we could go down to one admin after the initial set up.
C. Tactical Plan
Candidates will be recruited through internet volunteer postings on sites such as Volunteermatch.com, social networks such as Facebook, through the personal networks of existing and new committee personnel, and by word of mouth. Respondents will be asked to fill out a web-based volunteer form and submit it along with a resume, the latter of which will be circulated among the appropriate committee chairs and executive staff.
Recruitment chair and/or the relevant committee chair(s) will then follow up by both phone and email in a timely fashion to set up a face to face meeting as part of a series of weekly “meet and greets” for potential new volunteers. Appropriate committee chairs or their representatives, along with executive committee members will join the recruitment committee representative at each meet and greet to vet the candidate(s).
When a committee match has been confirmed and accepted, the candidate will be issued a volunteer handbook and asked to sign a volunteer agreement. Immediately upon signing, the new volunteer will be issued a DP email account and appropriate web access, and have her/his resume and bio uploaded to grouphub. S/he will also receive a basic training session in Dance Parade knowledge, materials, systems, and software.
Once that has been completed a formal hand-off to the appropriate committee chair will be confirmed by email. The recruitment committee will follow up with that committee chair by phone or in person to debrief on the effectiveness of the recruitment and training process.
