Free Cultural Fun—New York’s Only Dance Parade

The fourth annual New York City Dance Parade will attract nearly 8,000 dancers and twice as many supporters to the streets of Manhattan Saturday, May 22 in celebration of culture, community and the art of movement.

“Dance [Parade] brought about a feeling of unity and celebration I haven’t felt in New York in a long time,’ says Laura Graham, Dance Parade participant, she continues, ‘Dance Parade cut across ethnic, geographical and age delineation through one of the city’s greatest and most diverse art forms.”

All are invited to join this kid-friendly event intended to celebrate, but also raise awareness of the importance of dance in the community.  Registered dance groups range from ballet to belly dance, capoeira to the rumba, and from salsa to zydeco.

In addition to the dance companies and individual dancers, colorful floats, live bands and DJs will waltz, tango and pirouette down Broadway from 20th Street to Tompkins Square Park with a dance festival finale in the park through sunset.

Hundreds of volunteers, local business and several city agencies are cooperating in support of this immense project and are available for interviews.
